Ninety Years Loved: The People

This weekend we had the privilege of celebrating and honouring the ninetieth birthday of one whom we all love and respect.

The official birth date isn't for another fortnight but this weekend being a long weekend seemed the most opportune time to celebrate. I never imagined when I made a casual comment to a sister-in-law the weekend DH was in Wellington Hospital for his eye surgery last October that a "laid-back get-together" would bring family from the far corners of the earth to all be here to celebrate together. Amazingly, not one genetic or lawful family member was absent (even if one did have to leave partway through to catch a plane back to Canada) and only three "honorary" members were unable to be present.

What a joy and what a tribute for a wonderful woman!

I can think of no better start to documenting such an eventful day than to begin with the people ... the people she loves so dearly ... the people who spent time, effort and money to be here in person ... the people who provided the wonderful array of foods ... and the people who sat down to break bread together and rose up to laugh and play.

So to the people ...

Siblings and cousins from Australia, Canada and China ...

Youngest grandchild (right) and eldest great-grandchild exactly three months apart in age ...

In-laws, out-laws and all other laws ...

And this is what made it all worthwhile ...
