Autumn Daze

I never had any desire to move to our hometown. Nor did DH. When he began talking about moving to New Zealand (much to my horror!), the place we now call home was never on the agenda. He knew the area - after all his parents lived here - but it could be said that, figuratively speaking, he looked down his nose at it. (We have since discovered that the disdain with which many Kiwis treat our area is totally unwarranted.)

How we came to be here was through a series of God-incidences and now, twenty-two years later, we still believe we're meant to be here. (Even if we occasionally daydream about moving down to the South Island - or up North when I feel I can't take another cold winter).

Today was one of those beautiful autumn days. And so, on this Sunday afternoon we were to be found enjoying the local river ... and entertaining the idea that perhaps -just perhaps - there is nowhere else in the world we would rather live. And hopefully at least one other person who shared the delight of the afternoon with us, would agree.

By the way, it seriously is a miracle that the only creature that ended up in the water today was our dog, Nehli. I believe there were a few close calls ... The Most Adorable Granddaughter#7 looked ready to step off the wharf and straight into the water ... The Most Adorable Granddaughter#5 set herself the challenge of seeing just how far she could go without actually falling into the water ... The Most Adorable Granddaughter#6 came close to slipping off the bank when throwing sticks for Nehli ... and even the Most Cautious and Adorable Granddaughter#4 got brave and sat near the water's edge.

Thankfully, despite what he said, we all knew that Grandpa would be the first in the water if a rescue was needed!
